What is I/O Psychology?
I/O psychology is an abbreviation for Industrial/Organizational Psychology
According to the Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology: “Industrial-Organizational psychology is the scientific study of the workplace. Rigor and methods of psychology are applied to issues of critical relevance to business, including talent management, coaching, assessment, selection, training, organizational development, performance, and work-life balance”
My view is that I/O psychologists apply psychological principles and methods to understand, explain, and enhance human behaviors in the workplace.
The three broad goals of I/O psychology are:
Fairness - Helping employers treat employees fairly
Well-Being - Ensuring the physical and psychological wellness of workers
Productivity - Helping workers be more productive
